Topic: Take Hold Of Your Thoughts
Text: Philippians 4:7-9
8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Key Verse: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Message
The thoughts of your heart play a great role in determining who you are or who you will be. If your thoughts are always on negative things, your heart will meditate constantly on them and after sometime they will become real in your life. There is always a battle going on in your mind-to do evil or not; to continue following Jesus or not. Take hold of your thoughts, do not allow the devil to take your heart over or fill it with evil/negative suggestions that will destroy your life.
The Bible tells us that we are not fighting with carnal, physical weapons, it is a battle going on in the heart and only the word of God through His spirit can make us overcome Satan in our thoughts. To overcome negative thoughts then, you must:
- Read the word of God every day.
- Meditate upon the word.
- Pray itinto yourlife.
- Determine to obey it.
- Confess it everywhere.
These will help you to overcome negative thoughts taking over your heart; you are what you think.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, please help me to think only on positive things.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
