DCLM Higher Everyday 4 October 2023 — Tell Jesus What You Want

DCLM Higher Everyday  4 October 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Tell Jesus What You Want

Topic: Tell Jesus What You Want

Text: Luke 18: 35-43

35And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

36And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

37And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

38And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

39And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

40And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

41Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

42And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

43And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

Key Verse: “And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me” (Luke 18: 38).

Message

“Oh Lord, give me Scotland, or I die.” That was what John Knox, the Scottish reformer and mighty man of prayer told God, and God answered his prayer by giving him souls. Christian youths often search for solution to their problems everywhere except from where it matters most – from God. Problems blind young people to their best interests, and they make Jesus appear distant or unconcerned about their needs. Yet, genuine succour can only come when we tell Jesus what we want in prayer. The blind man in our text knew this, when he heard that Jesus was passing by; he did not hesitate to cry out for mercy, even though the people around discouraged him. He cried until he got the attention of Jesus who instantly gave him his sight.

If Christian youths spend as much time praying as they spend grumbling, they would soon have nothing to grumble about. Mathew 7: 7 says: “Ask and it shall be given you …” Never forget that Christ is faithful to His promises; He loves and cares for us. So, tell Him what you want and your desires will be granted.

Quote: He loves and cares for us

Challenge: Let nothing kill your prayer life.

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me not to forget to pray.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
