TOPIC: THE BEATITUDE – 2

TEXT: MATTHEW 5:6-13

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

MEMORY VERSE: “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (MATTHEW 5:6).

MESSAGE:

Monica came back from school really hungry, she pressed the front door bell connected to the living room, but there was no answer. She was so famished that she kept pressing repeatedly until it occurred to her, that her mum always put a spare key in a tiny hole close to the back door.

As soon as she got the key, she rushed into the kitchen for her lunch already packed in a warmer. With shaking hands, she devoured the food like a hungry lion. Are you this hungry for God’s word like Monica? Let your hunger and thirst plunge you into God’s deep sea of fullness and satisfaction.

Our text reveals the abundant blessings that are bestowed on all those who pant and hunger for righteousness. God blesses all those whose hunger and thirst for Him surpass all the pleasures of this life.

Decide now to lose passion for fleshly gratification and the pride of life to pursue things that will glorify God. Do you hunger and thirst after God’s Word?

QUOTE: Hunger for righteousness.

CHALLENGE: Have appetite for God’s word.

PRAYER: Create in me the appetite for You, oh God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
