DCLM Higher Everyday  16 October 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Brilliant Beginning

Topic: The Brilliant Beginning

Text: Proverbs 9:9-12

9Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

Key Verse: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).

Message

Guy Finley holds that, “Nothing in the universe can stop you from letting go and starting over.” This also applies to the believer whose brilliant beginning is when he knows he is a sinner and turns to Christ for Salvation. Surely, salvation brings a new beginning. God’s word says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). With faith in Christ, God gives you a new relationship, citizenship, family, direction in life, destiny, power, and a brand-new life.

Beloved, let your brilliant spiritual beginning be marked by fear of and supreme loyalty to God. When urged to do wrong, answer like Peter and John, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Also, in your studies, if your performance has been poor, you can have a new beginning. Excellent performance awaits youths who plan well by faith and work diligently. If you have been having relationship challenges with your family members, look objectively at the situation, pray and reconcile with all involved.

Quote: Salvation brings a new beginning

Challenge: To whom is your supreme loyalty?

Prayer for today: Almighty God, grant me a new beginning!

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
