TOPIC: THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE
TEXT: 1 PETER 2:4-10
4To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Key Verse: “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded” (1 Peter 2:6).
MESSAGE:
Since ancient times, builders have used cornerstones in their construction projects. A cornerstone was the physical stone usually placed at the corner of a great building to guide the workers in their course. The cornerstone was usually one of the largest, the most solid and the most carefully constructed of any big edifice.
The Bible describes Jesus as the Cornerstone upon which the Church is built. Once the cornerstone was set, it becomes the basis for determining every measurement in the remaining construction.
As the Cornerstone of the building of the Church, Jesus is our standard in everything. He will provide the firm foundation for our life if we trust in Him. He is the most reliable, and all who trust Him will never be put to shame.
Those who reject God’s chosen precious Cornerstone, want to build something different from what God is building. They are like the people who were building the tower of Babel. Judgment is waiting for those who reject Him. This is because anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.
Be wise and build your life on Jesus, the Chief Cornerstone, by repenting and turning away from all sins. Accept Him as your personal Saviour and Lord.
Prayer: Lord, I accept You as my personal Saviour and Lord.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
