TOPIC: THE END TIME
TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 3:1-5
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
MEMORY VERSE: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy” (2 TIMOTHY 3:1, 2).
MESSAGE:
John and Betty Stam were a missionary couple who loved the Chinese people. They preached the gospel of Christ from Wuhu to other remote provinces. On December 8, 1934, they were beheaded by Chinese communist bandits for their testimony of Jesus Christ. Their nine month old baby, Helen, was spared because a prisoner whom the bandits had earlier released volunteered to die for the little innocent girl.
In the world today, criminal gangs of rapists, ritual killers, bandits, robbers, kidnappers, etc., make daily news headlines because we are in the perilous times the Bible talks about. The evidences of the end of the world are summed up in our text.
Majority of the world population have rejected the gospel of Christ. They hate the Holy Bible for its righteous reproof of their evil ways. They are proud, covetous, rebellious to parents, and without natural love; but they love themselves and their sinful pleasures.
Unfortunately, some who confess faith in Christ only have outward show of godliness. They deny the power of God to make them holy. True Christians must avoid hypocrites. Do not copy their pernicious ways.
QUOTE: We are in perilous times.
CHALLENGE: Endure the persecution of Christians.
PRAYER: Lord, preserve my soul from the evils of the end time.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
