DCLM Higher Everyday 24 April 2024 — The Lethal Power of Lust
Topic: The Lethal Power of Lust
Text: 1John 2:15-17
16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Key Verse: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world” (1 John 2:16).
Message
Lust is a mental act that affects the emotions and can eventually lead to immoral physical acts. Merlin Carothers therefore cautions that, “The hearts of Christians are being corrupted by the world in which we live. Men and women are being sucked into the filth of lustful, adulterous, covetous thinking, and the only warning Christians are receiving, is not to do any of the physical acts! Of course we are not supposed to do the acts, but we shouldn’t be indulging in the thoughts either.” Tell me, what led Amnon into incest? Of course, lust. What prompted King David into adultery with Bathsheba? Again, lust. Each of these incidents led to violent death.
My friend, you cannot put fire in your bosom and your clothes not be burned (Proverbs 6:27). If you are controlled by the spirit of lust, be you a student, or worker, your adversary, the devil, will not give up until he slays you. What are you lusting after? Boys or girls? Money or material possessions? Your only escape route is repentance and faith in Christ. Surrender to Him and overcome.
Quote: Your only escape route is repentance and faith Christ.
Challenge: Lust is a tormentor: avoid it.
Prayer for today: Father, save me from lust, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
