DCLM Higher Everyday 23 April 2024 — The Firm Foundation

DCLM Higher Everyday 23 April 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Firm Foundation

Topic: The Firm Foundation

Text: Matthew 7:24-29

24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Key Verse: “And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock” (Matthew 7:25).

Message

A foundation is the basis on which something is grounded. In building a house, the primary thing to look out for is the foundation. Also Gordon B. Hinckley said, “You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation; you must have a solid foundation if you’re going to have a strong superstructure.” God’s word is the firm foundation for an excelling life. Our character, values and beliefs must stem from the word of God. The only thing that will make for survival, both now and in eternity, is holding on to the word of God. Jesus is the word personified, He is the sure foundation “…For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ”  (1Corinthian 3:11).

What kind of foundation are you building your life on? What are the things that inform your decisions – superstars from the world of sports, music or social media? Turn around today, for all these foundations are sinking grounds. To build your foundation on Christ, you must, first be born again. Then, study and live by the word of God.

Quote: God’s word is a firm foundation

Challenge: Build your life on Christ, the firm foundation.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to accept you as my firm foundation today.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
