DCLM Sincere Milk  27 November 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Look Of Faith

Topic: The Look Of Faith

Text: 1 Kings 18:41-45

41And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

45And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

Key Verse: “And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand.” 1 Kings 18:44

Message

Look, according to the Oxford dictionary is an act of directing one’s gaze in order to see someone or something. On who is your gaze? Are you gazing on Jesus with Whom all things are possible or you are gazing on your problems? The more you look up to Jesus in faith, the less weighty your problems and challenges become. Faith means an unfailing trust in God to do all things. Elijah the prophet of God had said “…. there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.” (1 Kings 17:1b) So there was no rain for three and half years.

After the draught, it was time for God to send down the rain and Elijah waited on God in prayers. He sent his servant to go and look towards the sea for a sign of answers to his prayers, but no good news until the seventh time. Cheer up and look up to Jesus by:

– Lifting up your voice in prayer to Him daily;
– Only believing what the word of God says concerning you;
O – Obeying all His commandments;
K – Knocking constantly on the door of heaven for answers to your prayer.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, give me courage to look away from all my problems and focus my attention on You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
