DCLM Sincere Milk  6 March 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The lord is with him

TOPIC: THE LORD IS WITH HIM

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 16:18-21

18Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

19Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

20And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

21And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

Key Verse: “Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him” (1 Samuel 16:18).

MESSAGE:

Our key verse is long and interesting. It is a remark that somebody made about David. He was a very young person at this time. These are the things the person said about David:

(i) Cunning in playing: He had developed his God-given talent and became the best in the nation.

(ii) Mighty and valiant: He was bold and courageous and could conquer the champion of the Philistines.

(iii) Man of war: He rose up to defend his people from being slaves to their spiritual and physical enemies.

(iv) Prudent in matters: He was careful, cautious and wise.

(v) A comely person: He was mindful of his outward appearance too.

(vi) The Lord is with him: God was happy with David and helped him wherever he went.

Can you learn from this man’s remark about David? Those who know you closely will surely have something to say about you. Today, you must be careful of what you say and do because not only men, but God is watching you. He has something to say about you. Be the best for God wherever you go.

Prayer: Lord, be with me, help me to be the best in all I do for You and teach me to be helpful to those around me.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
