DCLM Higher Everyday 29 October 2024 — The Lordship of Jesus

DCLM Higher Everyday 29 October 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Lordship of Jesus

Topic: The Lordship of Jesus

Text: Philippians 2:9-11

9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Key Verse: “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” (Philippians 2:10).

Message

The Lordship of Jesus Christ is far beyond a cliché used in Christendom. It represents the deity, superiority, uniqueness, finality and designation of our Savior Jesus Christ. It also implies supreme authority; and acknowledges Him as Ruler and Master of all. Biblically, the phrase “The Lord Jesus” appears 72 times in the New Testament.

Our Lord Jesus Christ condescended so low for our sakes and took upon Him the form of a servant and died a painful and shameful death on the cross. As a reward for His humility, Christ was exalted by the Father, honouring Him with a name that is above every other name – that at His name, every knee should bow. For us today, S. M. Zwemer rightly states: “Unless Jesus is Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.” So make Jesus your Lord today by first acknowledging your sinful state, then confess those sins to God in prayer and forsake them completely. This transforms you from, “all of self and none of Thee” to “none of self and all of Thee.”

Quote: Make Jesus your Lord today

Challenge: Accepting Christ implies accepting His Lordship.

Prayer for today: Lord, reign over every aspect of my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
