Topic: The Love Of God

Text: 1 John 4:6-8

6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Key Verse: “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1 John 4:8

Message

Jesus’ love is very wonderful, Jesus’ love is very wonderful, Jesus’ love is very wonderful, oh, wonderful love. So wide you can’t get around it, so high you can’t get above it, oh wonderful love.” This chorus that children often sang shows that the love of God is beyond description. It is not something you can measure or quantify. “For God so loved the world, (despite our sins and wickedness) that he gave his only begotten Son (Who was sinless and pure), that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) This was the show of unmerited everlasting love and favour from the Almighty God.

God is not just loving, rather God is love. The fact that God is love is seen in God loving His creatures. He therefore desires that we love Him and also love one another. How should a sinful child respond to God’s love? Firstly, he must accept that he is a sinner. Accept God’s gift of Jesus by repenting and asking for cleansing in the blood of Jesus. Secondly, he must ask Christ to come into his heart to reign as his personal Saviour and Lord. After this, then you must strive to show the love of Jesus to all around you.

Prayer for today: Save me Lord and keep me in your love.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
