TOPIC: THE MAJORITY IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT
TEXT: EXODUS 23:1-5
2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
3 Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
4 If thou meet thine enemy’s ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.
5 If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.
Key Verse: “Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil” (Exodus 23:2a).
MESSAGE:
One day during break-time in the school, when everyone was on the field playing, Ruddy planned to steal Bill’s biscuit from his bag. He asked Kelly to stay by the door and inform him whenever someone was coming. Kelly did not want to do what Ruddy asked him to do, but because other boys told him to do it, he agreed to do it. Ruddy was caught and was punished along with Kelly.
During Noah’s time, majority of the people did not obey God. They refused to enter into the ark of salvation, and they perished. It was only Noah and his family that was saved. Caleb and Joshua chose not to follow the majority. Out of the twelve spies that went to spy out the land of Canaan, the two of them stood out of the crowd to give a good report. They eventually got to the promised land while the majority died in the wilderness.
Don’t do bad things just because majority (greater number) of people are doing it. Don’t live in disobedience and sin. Do not pick and spend money that is not your own. Don’t lie to avoid being punished. Do not speak dirty words about leaders and other people because many people do it. Decide to do things because they are right, even if many people are not doing it. Remember, the majority is not always right.
Prayer: Dear Father, please help me to always obey You, even if some other people do not.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
