Text: Revelation 17:1-8
1And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
3So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Message
Pablo Escobar was born in Colombia in 1949. He rose to become the world’s most notorious drug trafficker in the 80s and 90s. He sold fake diplomas, stole cars, smuggled expensive equipment and ran one of the most dreaded cocaine cartels in the world. In just one fell swoop, his cartel bombed 100 people while trying to kill an informant. However, one day, Colombian security forces stormed his Medellin hideout, shot him dead and his cartel collapsed.

Pablo’s cartel typifies that of Babylon exposed in today’s text. The Babylon referred to in this place does not signify a country or city, but it describes the kind of wicked system inspired by Satan and the Antichrist. It is focused on idolatry and the elimination of true religion. This symbolic woman, gorgeously arrayed, turns the world into a citadel of iniquity where evil and unrighteousness reign. She murders and persecutes saints of God, leads kings of the world to whoredom and shifts the attention of the world to herself.
The angel that conducted Apostle John told him, “I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters”. This intimates that what would follow would be the exposing and destruction of Babylon depicted here as a magnificent, powerful and influential harlot full of abomination and drunk with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus Christ. This powerful system of evil, corruption and pride will eventually be brought to an abrupt end.
The Babylonian system is thriving at the moment. It is represented in all the ungodly innovations, entertainment and other excesses in the world today. Every Christian will do well to steer clear of involvement with its corruptions.

Those who refuse to detach from Babylon will perish with her.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
