DCLM Higher Everyday 24 August 2024 — The Patience of Job

DCLM Higher Everyday 24 August 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Patience of Job

Topic: The Patience of Job

Text: James 5:7-12

7Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

8Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

9Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

10Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

12But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Key Verse: “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy (James 5:11).

Message

Patience is one the virtues a true Christian must possess to be able to walk with God. Patience is not just the ability to wait, but the ability to maintain good behaviour while you are waiting. “Patience attracts happiness; it brings near that which is far,” Kate Phillips once asserted. Job exhibited an uncommon patience in his days – he lost his children, business and health, yet remained patient while waiting for God’s visitation. His wife and friends added more pains to his challenges, yet he remained resolute in his patience. The cheering news from the story of Job is that his patience made him to win the battle. Patience may produce bitterness now but in future the present bitterness will turn sweetness.

Many youths are not patient. They join bad gangs to look for quick and dubious money because they are not ready to go through the long journey to godly and peaceful wealth. Some seek occultic powers because they are sick and do not want to take time to wait on God who can heal them.  Be patient in all things!

Quote: Be patient in all things

Challenge: Patience is the road to wisdom.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to wait patiently for you.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
