TOPIC: THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL
BIBLE TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-9
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
KEY VERSE: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures” (1 CORINTHIANS 15:3).
MESSAGE:
A man had a bar where he sold alcoholic beverages. He was a very cruel and violent man whose presence meant terror for his wife and his ten-year-old daughter. A visible mark on the girl’s left arm was a constant reminder of her father’s bad temper. But one day, a preacher came to her father, explaining the mercies and love of Jesus Christ to him. He listened with rapt attention demanding to know if such mercies could be extended to a cruel man like him. On receiving the assurance from the preacher, he surrendered his life to Christ and became a changed person. For the first time in ages, his daughter saw him smile and happy. Due to this change, he asked his wife and daughter to forgive him and also took them to church where they also gave their lives to Christ. Love, joy and peace came into the family. This is the true power of the gospel.
The gospel message has such transforming power that no matter how deep one might have gone into sin, it he sincerely repents and accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, he will receive salvation. God is still merciful to sinners today, so we as children of God should use the power of the gospel and bring sinners to Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to always preach the gospel to sinners so that the power of the gospel can be made manifest.
FURTHER READING: Romans 1:16-19
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
