DCLM Higher Everyday 20 October 2022 — The saviour’s sacrifice

DCLM Higher Everyday 20 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The saviour’s sacrifice

TOPIC: THE SAVIOUR’S SACRIFICE

TEXT: HEBREWS 10:5-13

5Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

8Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

9Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

MEMORY VERSE: “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God” (HEBREWS 10:12).

On March 30, 1981, the United States President, Ronald Reagan, at the Washington Hilton Hotel, was shot and wounded by an assassin, John Hinckley Jr. Some of the president’s aides bravely fell upon the president, shielding him with their own bodies to save his life thereby becoming the receivers of most of the assassin’s bullets.

White House press secretary, James Brady, secret service agent Tim McCarthy and police officer, Thomas Delahanty, were badly wounded. Although all three survived, Brady suffered brain damage and was permanently disabled until he died in 2014. Their valiant act saved the life of the president.

These president’s men saved a life, but there is a greater act of sacrifice which brought salvation to endangered humanity. This was the sacrifice of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Only His sacrifice is spotless, universal and provides eternal life.

No other sacrifice can save a soul. Only Jesus Christ can save. My friend, if you surrender your life to Christ, He can save you and empower you to overcome sinful habits that you are struggling with.

QUOTE: No other sacrifice can save a soul.

CHALLENGE: Jesus Christ’s sacrifice is for the redemption of lost humanity.

PRAYER: Holy Father, enable me to bring the lost to Christ.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
