DCLM Higher Everyday 26 May 2026 — The Shepherd’S Care

DCLM Higher Everyday  26 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Shepherd’S Care

Topic: The Shepherd’S Care

Bible Reading: Psalm 23:1-6 (KJV)

1(A Psalm of David.) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

KEY VERSE: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

Message

A shepherd takes care of the sheep, nourishing and protecting them against dangers. The image of the shepherd looms large in a godly family. The children, like the sheep, depend on, and follow or obey their father for their daily care. The father on the other hand, is the “shepherd” that provides food, water, shelter, clothing, education, and physical, moral and spiritual protection for all in the family. The father may want to provide all that is needed by the sheep but he could be limited by human factors. We have only One Shepherd, who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. He is Jesus Christ. He knows and loves His sheep. He lays down His life for them (John 10:15). David, in our text, the shepherd king, in his youth, protected his father’s sheep against ferocious beasts. But Jesus is a greater Shepherd than David.

Beloved, our Good Shepherd, is unlimited in the means of caring for His own. Daily hear from Him through personal and family devotion and follow His guidance for needed help and general protection.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Good Shepherd, help me to follow You always.

CHALLENGE

Come under the shepherding arm of Christ.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
