DCLM Higher Everyday 9 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Wonders Of Wisdom
Topic: The Wonders Of Wisdom
Text: James 1:5-7
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Key Verse: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5).
Message
King Solomon, one of the wisest kings that ever lived, said, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom …” What then is wisdom? What is its importance and how can it be got? Wikipedia defines wisdom as the ability to contemplate and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense and insight. From the foregoing, a wise person uses knowledge right. He can make the right choices in difficult situations and uses available resources to accomplish his dreams. Everyone needs wisdom because according to the Hillsong Church, it “gives a sense of personal security and stability. Wisdom builds strong homes and promotes happy family relationships.”
The Bible talks about two kinds of wisdom: one is heavenly and the other is earthly. The first promotes a healthy interpersonal relationship while the other creates disaffection in human relationships (James 3:13-17). Heavenly wisdom comes from God and only those who know Him can possess it. The content of a parcel should normally belong to the addressee. Like healing, wisdom is “the children’s bread.” Are you one?
Quote: Everyone needs wisdom
Challenge: Heavenly wisdom comes from God.
Prayer for today: Lord evermore, give me the heavenly wisdom.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
