DCLM Sincere Milk 5 December 2022 — Trickish Serpent

DCLM Sincere Milk 5 December 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Trickish Serpent

TOPIC: TRICKISH SERPENT

TEXT: GENESIS 3:1-7

1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Key Verse: “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Genesis 3:1).

MESSAGE:

“Just taste it, it’s not harmful, everyone is doing it”, said Tracy to Dammy. Then Dammy took a little dose and collapsed to the floor. Tracy started running here and there calling for help. “Call 911 please,” she cried. Within five minutes, the ambulance arrived and conveyed Dammy to the hospital.

She was however lucky to live to tell the story of her foolish action. She realized afterward that she should have resisted the temptation to fall for Tracy’s offer to taste hard drugs. She then remembered all the word of God she had learnt, she surrendered her life to Christ and vowed never to follow bad friends and their tricks.

God had given a specific and direct instruction and warning to Adam and Eve concerning the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden. Suddenly, the serpent appeared on the scene to trick them to disobey God. They yielded to the trick, and here we are today bearing the result of their fall.

There are still many “trickish serpents” in the world today. They are going about luring children into immorality, consumption of hard drugs, smoking, bad gangs, violence, pornography and other evil things.

To Adam, just one bite of the forbidden fruit seemed reasonable. He took a bite and lost his paradise and fellowship with God. You do not need to learn the hard way and end up with regrets. Always say NO to all suggestions to disobey God.

Prayer: Lord, give me grace to resist every temptation coming from trickish agents.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
