DCLM Higher Everyday 29 October 2025 — Trusting God Under Pressure

DCLM Higher Everyday 29 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Trusting God Under Pressure

Topic: Trusting God Under Pressure

Text: 2 Corinthians 1:3-11

3Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

4Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

5For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

6And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

7And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

8For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

9But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

10Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

11Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

Key Verse: “But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead” (2 Corinthians 1:9).

Message

Our text admonishes us to endure the pressure that comes to us as a result of our faith. Pressure is any form of situation or circumstance that tends to influence our decisions negatively, posing threats to our obedience to Christ. Christian youths may face a lot of pressure from their peers, unbelieving parents, teachers and the society at large. Pressure may manifest as tribulations, persecutions, temptations, setbacks and health issues that want to lay claims to our lives.

Like Paul the Apostle, Christian youths must exercise faith in God to overcome the adverse effect of pressure to their commitment to follow Christ till the end. The Bible makes us to understand that God’s grace is sufficient for us to overcome any form of pressure. It is important to emphasize that a sinning youth lacks the grace of God to resist pressure because God gives grace to only those who love Him. Therefore, a sinner needs to repent and believe in Jesus as Lord and personal Saviour. Regular studying of God’s word and prayers are important to obtain grace to overcome.

Quote: Endure the pressure that comes

Challenge: Never yield to pressure; for yielding is sin.

Prayer for today: Lord, give me the grace to overcome pressure.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
