TOPIC: UNBELIEF CAUSES BACKSLIDING.
TEXT: Hebrews 3:7-13.
7Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Memory Verse: “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God” (Hebrews 7: 13).
MESSAGE
“Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria,” Elisha announced. The lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, “Now, behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? Elisha said, behold, thou shall see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof” (2kings 7: 19).The lord on whose hand the king leaned doubted the word of God, he died and never enjoyed the fulfilment of God’s word because of unbelief.
When you allow unbelief to crop up in your heart without check, it can lead you on the down ward road to backsliding. The children of Israel were barred from entering into the Promised Land due to their unbelief. Likewise, unbelief can hinder you from getting into heaven. To prevent backsliding in your spiritual life, you must take God at His word, trust Him with all your heart, and never doubt Him. You must abide in Christ and be spiritually alert.

Prayer: Purge me from an evil heart of unbelief, oh God!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
