TOPIC: UNBELIEF HAS CONSEQUENCES
TEXT: HEBREWS 3:12-19
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
MEMORY VERSE: “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief” (HEBREWS 3:19).
MESSAGE:
C. G. Finney said that unbelief “is the absence, or perhaps I should say, the opposite of faith. Faith is a felt, conscious, practical confidence in the character, providence, and word of God; and conscious assurance that what God has said shall come to pass; such an inward and felt assurance, and hearty and joyful embracing of the truth, as to produce corresponding feeling and action, and to exclude doubt.”
Unbelief is the withholding of confidence from God’s eternal truth as a result of fear or deliberate rebellion. The children of Israel engaged in unbelief to the detriment of their souls. God performed so many miracles before their eyes, yet they chose to be controlled by unbelief, and they could not enter the Promised Land because of that.
In our contemporary time, many are still trivializing the solemnity of the Scriptures; hence, they refuse to accept Christ as Saviour, and continue in their sinful lifestyles. The Lord is calling you as you are reading this now to come out of unbelief, and accept Jesus so that you can enter heaven at the end of your journey here on earth.
QUOTE: Come out of unbelief.
CHALLENGE: Deal with unbelief now.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to overcome unbelief.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
