DCLM Sincere Milk 21 September 2022 — Unity of the Spirit

DCLM Sincere Milk 21 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Unity of the Spirit

TOPIC: UNITY OF THE SPIRIT

BIBLE TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:1-6

1I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

KEY VERSE: “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).

MESSAGE:

There is a popular saying that works wonders in real life, and it goes thus: “United we stand, divided we fall”. There is power in unity. Have you tried to find out why God gave us two hands and two legs? Can you walk to school with only one leg? Can you wash clothes or plates with only one hand? Your two legs must agree to walk together, and your two hands must agree to wash together; they need each other.

In every family, church and society, there must be unity. There is very little that can be achieved in life when you walk alone. The family and the church were designed by God to work in unity. Every family or church where there is division cannot last, they will eventually fall.

The word “Endeavour” means make effort, try and struggle. That means unity of the Spirit does not come by itself into a family. Somebody must pay the price to make it happen. To keep the unity of the Spirit in the family, you must be willing to pay the price of:

(i) Lowliness and Meekness – Be ready to humble yourself before all those who are older than you in the family or church. You must never be rude.

(ii) Longsuffering – This is bearing with or tolerating other people for a long time without complaining.

(iii) Forbearing one another in love – Forbearing means to be patient, forgiving, tolerant and showing mercy. Play your part to keep your family and the church of God together in unity. There is a reward waiting for you.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, make me an agent of unity in my family and church.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
