DCLM Higher Everyday 2 October 2023 — Watch Against Worry
DCLM Higher Everyday 2 October 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Watch Against Worry
Topic: Watch Against Worry
Text: Psalm 42:1-5
2My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
3My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
4When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Key Verse: “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance” (Psalm 42:5).
Message
According to Mahatman Gandhi, “There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever.” Jesus Christ warned His disciples about the futility and the danger of worry (Matthew 6:25, 27). Worry is evidence of lack of trust in God’s promises and ability to take care of our needs. The Lord watches over you and is deeply concerned about your welfare if you are truly born again.
Christ foretold that believers would have tribulations on earth and encouraged them to live in peace and be of good cheer. Unpleasant situations drain us of the joy of salvation if we welcome them with worry and anxiety. These experiences tend to put our faith and Christian conviction to test. For some of us, the worry could be about examinations, recurring illness, and our future. We forget to take our burdens to the Lord and leave them with Him. Trust in the Lord, persist in prayer and patiently wait for Him to glorify His name in your life.
Quote: Trust in the Lord
Challenge: Worry is not the solution but faith in God is!
Prayer for today: Lord, I exchange all my worries for your peace.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
