Topic: Water Baptism For The Washed

Text: Mark 1:9-13

9And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

10And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

11And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

12And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.

13And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Key Verse: “And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan” (Mark 1:9).

Message

The word baptism is from the Greek word “Baptiso” meaning to immerse. “And straightway coming up out of the water …” (Mark 1:10) also confirms that water baptism is by immersion and not by sprinkling of water or any other erroneous ways as taught and practised by some religious people.Water baptism is part of the Great Commission given to the disciples by the Lord Jesus Christ after His resurrection and shortly before His ascension. It is for every Christian and it should come after salvation experience. It is a public declaration that we now belong to the kingdom of God as we identify with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. It is done by one immersion in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, as Jesus commanded, and not thrice.

However, it must be stated that water baptism is not equivalent to salvation. We only become saved through repentance and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. After we become saved, we must obey the word of the Lord and be baptized.

Quote: It is for every Christian

Challenge: Get baptized in water after salvation.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to obey your word on water baptism.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
