DCLM Daily Manna 15 November 2024 — What Do You Know About Jesus?

DCLM Daily Manna 15 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — What Do You Know About Jesus?

TOPIC: What Do You Know About Jesus? (DCLM Daily Manna 15 November 2024)

KEY VERSE: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39).

TEXT: John 5:39-47 (KJV)

39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

41 I receive not honour from men.

42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

What you know about people usually determines your relationship with them. When you are ignorant of the power and influence of someone, you are more likely to disregard and disdain such an individual. In the process, many rob themselves of life’s most important benefits. Because knowledge is power, as people often say, acquisition of the right knowledge drives what you do and how far you can go in harnessing the benefits from the person or subject or profession that you really know.

The Lord had just healed a man who had been ill for 38 years. But rather than rejoice over the miracle, the Jews were upset with the man that was healed and attacked Jesus for doing this good work on the Sabbath day. But Jesus was undaunted and urged them to read through the Scriptures, whose contents all point to His coming. Their minds were closed; their hearts were blinded to their best spiritual interests.

They refused to accept the person of Jesus. He told them that they did not love God; otherwise, they would have rejoiced at the Messiah the Father sent to the world. They loved to receive honour from men, not God. Their fate would be sealed in all eternity based on the Scriptures they read but did not believe. And if they did not believe the words Moses wrote, how would they accept what Jesus said?

Willful disregard for God’s word is dangerous. Anyone who persists in it would soon become hardened and perpetually miss the transformation of life that Christ gives. You must also shun every tendency to crave the approval of men. What matters is what God says about you. And you will not know what He thinks about you if you are ignorant of the Scriptures.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The knowledge of Christ sets a person free from bondage.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
