DCLM Sincere Milk 9 June 2023 — What Must I Do To Be Saved?

DCLM Sincere Milk  9 June 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Topic: What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Text: Acts 16:23-31

23And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

24Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

27And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Key Verse: “And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Acts 16:30

Message

During the early church era, preaching in some cities was dangerous. It landed Paul and Silas in prison. It was a gloomy night in that Paul and Silas were chained to a prison wall but they decided to show forth their faith by singing praises to God. As they sang, the entire prison shook from a great earthquake, causing all the prison doors to fly open and their chains fell off. Everybody was free! When the jailer raced in and saw the doors opened, he drew out a sword to kill himself before his boss would kill him because he thought that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul stopped him and told him that all the prisoners were present and did not run away. The grateful jailer asked “what must I do to be saved?”

This is the most important question one can ask. Until a sinful child comes to this point of realizing that he is a sinner, he will remain in his sinful ways. The jailer realized that he was a sinner therefore, he wanted to know what to do to be saved. The answer the Apostle gave him is the same for everyone today who desires to experience genuine salvation. Repent, turn away from your sins and accept Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal Saviour and Lord.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, I surrender my life to you, save me and make me your child.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
