DCLM Sincere Milk 18 May 2023 — Wild Grapes
DCLM Sincere Milk 18 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Wild Grapes
Topic: Wild Grapes
Text: Isaiah 5:4-7
5And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:
6And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
7For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
Key Verse: “… wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?” Isaiah 5:4b
Message
The children of Israel are the only people on earth that are originally referred to as God’s people. Their capital city, Jerusalem, is the only city that is called the City of God. Israel is very precious to God, it is not because of her righteousness or obedience, it all started with the call of Abraham. Obedience of one man brought God’s favour upon a people. It is also because God was preparing a people through whom He would bring the Saviour to the world.
However, God was concerned about the attitude of the children of Israel towards Him. He has showed them so much love and patiently waited for them to do what is right before Him. But, they bore wild grapes (rebellious and wicked acts) instead of fruits of righteousness. God planted them like a vineyard; but they did not bear fruits that were pleasant to God. Most times, God was disappointed by their disobedience. He had to remove His covering of protection from them and brought severe punishment on them.
Obedience to God and doing what is right before Him all the time, this will ensure God’s unceasing blessings on you. Is God happy with you? Does He see actions of truth and righteousness in your life? If yes, be rest assured He will keep and bless you. If no, repent and He will forgive you.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to do only those things that will always make You happy with m
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
