TOPIC: SIN HAS A “PAY-DAY”

TEXT: 2 PETER 3:9-12

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Key Verse: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10).

MESSAGE:

Every worker or labourer looks forward to the Pay-day. It is the day their labours are rewarded in form of monetary benefits. The expectation of this pay-day makes people to work hard no matter the situation around them or in their work environment.

As it is in the physical, so it is in the spiritual. There is a pay-day for the kind of life we live on earth. There is reward for righteousness, and there is definitely going to be punishment for sinful/evil life.

Wilson was born and raised in a Christian family. His parents brought up both him and his twin brother, Williams, in the way of righteousness. Wilson grew up to abandon all the teachings of the Bible, and decided to join himself to a bad gang. Oftentimes, Wilson would not go to school but would choose to play around with his gang.

The twin brothers sat for the West African School Certificate Examination at the same time. Williams passed all the subjects with excellent grades and got a scholarship to study in one of the best universities in the world. He later became a distinguished medical doctor. Wilson, on the other hand, failed woefully and could not proceed with his education, but became a notorious robber. He ended his life in prison.

You may live a life of sin and appear to be getting away with it. Remember that judgment day is coming, (Proverbs 11:21).

Prayer: O God, please deliver me from the judgment that awaits unrepentant sinners.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
