TOPIC: WILLINGLY HONOURING WIDOWS

TEXT:1 TIMOTHY 5:1-6

1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;

2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.

4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

MEMORY VERSE: “Honour widows that are widows indeed” (1 TIMOTHY 5:3).

MESSAGE:

Honouring is the act of respecting someone. It is often borne out of a perceived value for a person. In God’s sight, everyone is valuable and should be honoured because man is created in His image and likeness.

However, the society has varying value and honour for different people. Some people are treated without honour because the world does not understand God’s demand on honouring all men. One such groups of people are the widows who are widows indeed because they have advanced in age and are unlikely to remarry. God demands that we specially honour and take care of widows who may not have any means of daily bread or other necessities of life.

Youths are expected to lend a helping hand to widows who are in dire need of support. You could run errands for them, visit and pray along with them. You need to heed the counsel of James which says, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27).

QUOTE: Take care of widows

CHALLENGE: Value widows as God also does.

PRAYER: O Lord, grant me grace to perceive widows as You do.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
