Topic: Wisdom Cries To The World
Text: Proverbs 1:20-30
20Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
22How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Key Verse: “Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets” (Proverbs 1:20).
Message
On wisdom, hear J. A. Motyer, “Wisdom opens the eyes both to the glories of heaven and to the hollowness of earth.” Our text reveals the demand of God from man. This has to do with the desirable blessings of obedience and the dangers of rejecting or neglecting the offer of salvation through Christ. Jesus Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Indeed, Jesus is wisdom personified (1Corinthians 1:24). He cries out, “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He will save, sanctify, secure and guide His own in the journey of life. But the rebellious will face His eternal wrath.
On which side are you: The side of Christ or the devil, the side of wisdom or the side of folly? Remember: “One cannot live foolishly forever without reaping the benefits,” says Brent A. Strawn. Those who reject Christ will be barred from His presence forever. Make your choice now! Choose Christ that it may be well with you here and in the hereafter.
Quote: Jesus is Wisdom personified
Challenge: Have you chosen Christ, the Wisdom of God?
Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me to choose the path of Wisdom.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
