TOPIC: WORLDLINESS IS DANGEROUS
TEXT: JAMES 4:1-4
2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
MEMORY VERSE: “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (JAMES 4:4).
MESSAGE:
Thomas Guthrie said, “If you find yourself loving any pleasure more than your prayers, any book better than the Bible, any house better than the house of the Lord, any table better than the Lord’s Table, any persons better than Christ, or any indulgence better than the hope of heaven – be alarmed.”
In this world of changing values and fashions, believers are expected to live a life of non-conformity to the world. We are in the world but not of the world. God warns us against friendship with the world because it pollutes. The goals of the world are self-fulfilment, self-will and pleasure-seeking, all of them are antagonistic to God, His Word and His will.

If you have made heaven your goal, you should steer clear of all forms of worldliness. In dressing, appear clean, graceful, decent and modest. Shun worldly pleasures and amusements such as worldly music, dancing and parties. Loving anything more than God means gaining the world at the expense of your soul, those who love and please God will abide forever.
QUOTE: Shun worldly pleasures and amusements.
CHALLENGE: Please God in all things and not self or men.
PRAYER: O God, help me to press on until Jesus comes!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
