DCLM Sincere Milk 10 September 2022 — The poor widow’s cheerful giving

DCLM Sincere Milk 10 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The poor widow’s cheerful giving

TOPIC: THE POOR WIDOW’S CHEERFUL GIVING

TEXT: MARK 12:41-44

41And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Key Verse: “And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing” (Mark 12:42).

MESSAGE:

God first shows boys and girls the example of giving when in love, He gave Jesus to the whole world to be our Saviour. Not only that, He also freely gave us all other things to enjoy.

Jesus, as well, gave His life on the cross of Calvary to save us from our sins, and He gives eternal life. To show your gratitude in appreciation of what He has done for you, He wants you to be a giver, and a cheerful giver in particular. He does not want you to be stingy or selfish.

All you have is given to you by God. Out of that little you have, give; don’t say that it is too small. Learn from the poor widow in the Bible passage. She gave all she had to God cheerfully, not thinking about what she would next eat, but trusted God, the Great Provider.

There is great reward in giving. Jesus said, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over…” That is, much more will be given to you in return.

Your giving must be done cheerfully so as to make it acceptable to God. Remember that the first gift to give to God is your heart. Surrender your life to Jesus, and He will accept you.

Prayer: Lord, I surrender all unto You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
