DCLM Higher Everyday 23 August 2023 — Your Choice, Your Destiny

DCLM Higher Everyday  23 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Your Choice, Your Destiny

Topic: Your Choice, Your Destiny

Text: Deuteronomy 30:15-20

15See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

16In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

17But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

18I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.

19I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

20That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Key Verse: “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).

Message

People are quick to trace the woes of human race to the choice that Eve and Adam made in the Garden of Eden, and rightly so. However, we all are still faced with choices that can either make or mar us in time and eternity. In our text, God lays the cards bare, shows us the consequences of our choices, and then advises us to make the right choice that can lead to life eternal. According to Jim Elliot, “God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with him.”

Those who are obedient to God can always find Him helping in making the right choice for a great destiny. A case in point is that of Ruth (Ruth 1:14-19). Her mother-in-law, had dissuaded her and Orpah from following her to Israel, because of uncertain future. Orpah reconsidered the situation and went back to her people in Moab. But Ruth’s choice to go with Naomi, unite with her people, and serve her God was irrevocable. She was blessed. So, consider entrusting all your decision-making into the hands of God and watch Him establish you eternally.

Quote: God lays the cards bare

Challenge: Choose divine advice.

Prayer for today: Teach me, Lord, to depend on you for every decision of my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
