DCLM Sincere Milk 5 November 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — David’s Example, Part 1 – The Fear Of God
Topic: David’s Example, Part 1 – The Fear Of God
Text: 2 Samuel 23:1-4
2The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
3The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
4And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.
Key Verse: “The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” 2 Samuel 23:3
Message
A story was told of a child who followed his father to another farmer’s farm to steal yam. The man instructed his son to be looking and watching for any one coming while he (the father) dug out the yam from the ground. The boy agreed and was watching. However, once a while, the boy would whisper to his father as the man was busy digging, “He is looking at you”. The father would suddenly stop and look around. When he saw nobody coming, he would ignore the boy and continue digging. This continued for some time until the boy whispered again “He is looking at you”. The father then stopped and asked the boy: who? The boy pointed to the sky and told the father – “God is looking at you”. The father got the message clearly, and abandoned the evil assignment of stealing.
The fear of God is the understanding that God is everywhere, at every time, looking at every action of boys and girls. Mom and Dad cannot be with you at all times, but God is always there. God spoke through king David to tell everyone what it means to have the fear of God. The fear of God will make you do what is just, fair, true, righteous and no eye service. The fear of God is needed by every child that will be great like king David and others.

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, put the fear of God in me, so that I may do what pleases You at all times.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
