DCLM Daily Manna 2 February 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Requirements For Eternal Life
TOPIC: Requirements For Eternal Life (DCLM Daily Manna 2 February 2025)
KEY VERSE: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
TEXT: Hebrews 12:14-17 (KJV)
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Once a Polish Rabbi had a memorable discussion with visitors as to his sparsely-furnished home. The visitor wondered why the Rabbi had only a bench and a table with many books all around. He asked what happened to the Rabbi’s furniture to which the Rabbi equally asked where was the visitor’s furniture. The visitor reminded the Rabbi that he was a visitor who was merely passing through; to which the Rabbi replied: “So am I”. The moral of this exchange is that we are all visitors to earth. Soon, we will all return to our eternal home.

Our text harps on the need to embrace uprightness and purity of heart as prerequisites for residing in God’s holy and eternal abode. The Psalmist also gives a good perspective on this. In Psalm 24, he asked the all-important question on everyone’s lips, and by divine inspiration rendered the only perfect answer. The question is, who will make it to heaven? What pathway can one walk and be sure of arriving there? The psalmist has a heaven-inspired answer: upright walk, righteous works, and truth-speaking. The lifestyle assured of passage to heaven belongs to those who do not backbite, do evil or bring no reproach to God and their neighbours. He overlooks evil and is a lover of right standing before God.

James Packer, in his classical daily insights for knowing God, Your Father Loves You (Harrold Shaw Publishers, 1996), quoted a theologian who described heaven as “an unknown region with a well-known inhabitant.” Yes, no one here on earth has previously lived in heaven except Jesus Christ and those to whom God gave revelations. While heaven is truly unknown to man, we can safely say, according to the words of the Scripture, that no one gets there without the prerequisite of the divine triad of peace, purity and power obtainable here on earth. We must establish a peaceful relationship with God by repenting of our sins and accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Thereafter, we maintain peaceful relationship with others, followed by the pursuit of holiness. These are requirements that will guarantee anyone who desires to get to heaven at the end of life.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
It takes purity of heart to walk on the highway to heaven.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
