DCLM Higher Everyday 16 May 2026 — The Role Of A Boy-Child

DCLM Higher Everyday  16 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Role Of A Boy-Child

Topic: The Role Of A Boy-Child

Bible Reading: Exodus 2:1-10 (KJV)

1And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

3And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.

4And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

5And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

6And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

7Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

8And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

9And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

10And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

KEY VERSE: “And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months” (Exodus 2:2).

Message

International Day of the Boy-Child is a day set aside to celebrate boys and acknowledge their unique needs and challenges as they grow into men. It is a day meant to empower boys to become confident, respectful, and responsible persons, while emphasising the need for positive masculinity and their well-being. From our text, we could see the boy Moses, who was born at a perilous time in Egypt. The Bible referred to him as a “goodly child,” because there were great potentials in him.

Boys are specially endowed with special qualities that are peculiar to them. Physicality is peculiar to boys and should be positively used for the good of humanity. Some boys wrongly use the gift of masculinity to promote gendered behaviour like: sexual violence, hate speech and bullying against the girl-child. Moses used his special endowment from God for the good of humanity. Boys need love and care to grow into responsible adults. Thus, boys should be helped early in life to accept Christ as their Lord to receive grace to fulfill purposes for their lives, families, church and humanity.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, help our boys to grow and become responsible adults.

CHALLENGE

Masculinity is a gift from God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
