KEY VERSE: “Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.” Mark 15:31
Message
Our key verse is a mocking statement from the chief priest to the crucified Lord and Saviour. The people saw Him hanging on the cross helplessly. The Jews thought He was weak. They would have wondered saying how could this Man Who was all out saving others not able to save Himself? This was the Man Who raised the dead, fed five thousand with a few loaves of bread and two fishes, walked on the sea, calmed the fiercest storm, escaped many attempts of the religious leaders to arrest Him.
Why had He become helpless suddenly? It was not out of weakness, but out of obedience to His Father and love towards all humans. He has all the power, and He has all the strength yet, He refused to save Himself because His sacrifice was the only thing that could please God and appease Him for our sins. He could save Himself, but He didn’t do it for our salvation. He bore the pain, reproach and shame for our sakes. He died so that we may live. If He had saved Himself, you would remain unsaved from sin and be condemned to suffer in hell fire forever. You can be saved now because of Jesus’ sacrifice.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Thank You Lord, for giving Yourself for me. The hope of living with God eternally is mine only through Your sacrifice.
FURTHER READING
John 3:16-18
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
