Message
A story was told of a worker who spent the time for official duty to go out for his personal business. When he returned a few days later, his boss invited him to explain why he should not be punished for absenting himself from duty without permission. He was said to have told a lie to his boss that he received an urgent message from home that his sick mother died and he decided to take a few days off to go and bury her. The following day he was called from his village only to be informed that his mother suddenly took ill and had died on the way to the hospital. He quickly concluded that it might have happened to him according to what he said.
The evil words we speak with our tongues are like twoedged sword. They do not only confuse others, but also pave way for our destruction. God, very often, turns to give to us according to our sayings. The children of Israel spoke out of frustration and unbelief. God’s answer to their words is found in our Bible passage. Had the children of Israel realised that their very mouths ¹would become their quickest tools of destruction, they would have put their tongues under strict control. Just as they had spoken, they died in the wilderness and never entered God’s land of promise. You sometimes speak and then turn around to say, “I am joking, I do not mean it, it is not so.” Be careful what you say with your little mouth. Speak godly words and God will bless you in return.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, give me a clean heart that I may speak godly words and be blessed by You.
FURTHER READING
Matthew 12:34-37
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
