Bible Reading: Mark 4:35-40 (KJV)
35And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
37And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
KEY VERSE: And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:39).
Message
A storm is a violent atmospheric disturbance accompanied by strong winds, and usually rain, thunder, lightning, or snow. It destroys everything on its path. The deadliest storm in the world, according to Jessika Toothman and Nicholas Gerbis, is the 1970 Bhola cyclone on the Bay of Bengal. It resulted in 300,000 to 500,000 deaths. Little wonder when the disciples of Jesus saw the oncoming storm, they were terrified. Individuals face storms in their personal lives – sickness, failure in examination, and loss of a dear one.
Job in the Bible faced the storm of life. In a single day he lost his oxen, asses, sheep, servants, camels, sons, and daughters. He also suffered from a sickness. Job trusted in God and the storm of his life was turned around. The antidote to life’s storm is to call upon the name of Jesus. Rest in the command of the Saviour that says, “Peace, be still!” He has power over nature. If you turn your life over to Him, He will turn your life around and give you peace.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Oh God, help me to overcome the storms of life in Jesus’ name.
CHALLENGE
With Jesus, you can prevail over the storm.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
