TOPIC: CHILDREN’S DUTY TO PARENTS
BIBLE TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:1-3
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
MEMORY VERSE: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right; Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise”(Ephesians 6:1, 2).
MESSAGE:
It was Tioro who rightly stated that, “A man who neglects his duty is not entitled to his right.” The Bible verses above instruct that children should obey their parents “in the Lord” because it is the first commandment with the promise of long life and welfare. Parents have the responsibility to care for and teach their children obedience and how to live well. They should also pray for them and with them. On the other hand, it is the duty of the children to obey their parents, running errands for them and supporting them when they are old.
Dear friend, respect and obey your parents. You should not wait for them to tell you to study, wash clothes, dishes and do general cleaning of the house and compound. If the children in the home are many, the duties can be shared with each child doing his or her own properly and timely. In the Old Testament times, disobedience to parents was punishable by death (Deuteronomy 21:18-21; Proverbs 20:20). However, you do not even have to be spanked if you honour your parents.
QUOTE: Respect and obey you your parents
PRAYER: Obey and Wsupport your parents.
CHALLENGE: Oh God, give me the grace to be an obedient child.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
