TOPIC: ANTIDOTE TO WORRY

BIBLE TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:4-8

4Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

5Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

MEMORY VERSE: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (PHILIPPIANS 4:6).

MESSAGE:

To worry is to be troubled; to give way to mental anxiety or doubt. The mind that worries fails to disconnect from the past failure and also condemns the future before he gets there. Worry robs you of today’s joy and hinders you from maximizing your potential. Many youths today worry about many things such as what to wear, what to eat, how to pass their examination, how to pay their school fees, and what the future holds for them. Understand that worry solves no problem but rather complicates the problem. Worry can make you lose your sleep, and your appetite and even cause you to behave irrationally sometimes.

The Bible text of today gives us the antidote to worry. One, take all your worries and problems to God in prayer. Two, be thankful for everything. Three, think about the positive things in life by constant meditation on the word of God, and finally, have faith in God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:31, “Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or, what shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothed?”

QUOTE: Worry solves no problem.

CHALLENGE: Never worry, but pray_

PRAYER: Lord, help me to overcome all my worries.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
