DCLM Daily Manna 11 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A Call To Accountability

TOPIC: A Call To Accountability (DCLM Daily Manna 11 May 2026)

KEY VERSE: Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever – Amos 1:11

TEXT: Amos 1:9-15 (KJV)

9 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.

11 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:

12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:

14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:

15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the Lord.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

After World War II, the Nuremberg trials took place to hold key leaders of Nazi Germany accountable for their war crimes, including genocide. These trials sent a powerful message to the world: individuals and nations must answer for their horrific actions, much like the divine judgment described in the Scripture. Amos delivers a sharp critique of the neighbouring nations of Tyre, Edom, and Ammon in this passage. Each of these nations, in their own way, violated God’s laws and showed a blatant disregard for human life and dignity. Through Amos’ prophecy, God made it clear that the nations were responsible for their actions, reminding us that our choices carry weighty consequences. Tyre, a prosperous and influential nation, was called out for breaking its covenant with Israel and for its involvement in human trafficking. Edom, a nation connected to Israel by family ties and covenant, faced condemnation for its violence, lack of compassion, and hostility towards its brother Jacob. Finally, the Ammonites were reprimanded for their brutality, killing defenceless women and children in their quest for land.

The looming threat of judgment against those nations serves as a stark reminder of God’s intolerance for evil, no matter where it appears. God calls for repentance and righteousness from everyone, showing no favouritism. Whether one is an Israelite or not, God is the Creator of all and will ultimately be the Judge of all. The three nations discussed here, while not part of Israel, were still warned of impending judgment and urged to repent.

As we seriously ponder over these events today, we are reminded that we cannot ignore God’s laws without facing the repercussions for our actions. We cannot treat others cruelly, hold onto unforgiveness, or engage in wickedness and expect to escape retribution. As Amos stated, when God speaks, we must listen; and when we fail to listen, we do so at our own peril.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God’s justice transcends international frontiers.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
