TOPIC: A FAITHFUL FAMILY

BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 18:16-19

16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

MEMORY VERSE: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” (GENESIS 18:19).

MESSAGE:

The family is the basic and most important institution of society. It is the place where we receive our first education and where values and other traits are learned. The International Day of Families is observed on the 15th of May every year to recognize the roles families play in shaping our society. The day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993.

A faithful family is one where the word of God is taught and practiced. The family of Abraham portrayed this type of family. In a goodly family, the parents take care of the children, and the children respond in love and respect. Such a family would produce godly children like Isaac, Daniel, Philip’s daughters, Timothy and others who had positive impact on their society.

To raise faithful families, we must play our part by first becoming a member of the family of God through repentance and faith in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This will help us to be obedient to the godly counsels of our parents. In turn, the Lord will bless us with long life and all-round success.

QUOTE: Be obedient to godly counsels.

CHALLENGE: A healthy society is a product of healthy families.

PRAYER: Lord, make my family a blessing to my generation.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
