TOPIC: BE A BLESSING TO OTHERS

TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 9:6-13

6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!

7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.

10 Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11 Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.

12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.

13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.

MESSAGE:

Key Verse: “And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually” (2 Samuel 9:7).

Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul, the king of Israel. He enjoyed certain privileges that only a few people had because of the royalty attached to his birth. But things turned around. He lost his father and was also lame on both feet.

David, on the other hand, a child of God and king of Israel, thought to show kindness to the house of Saul, who was already dead. He determined not to enjoy the blessings of God alone, and that was why he sent to the house of Saul. He ensured that Mephibosheth was brought to the palace and had food to eat every day of his life from the king’s table.

Children of God should not enjoy the provisions of God alone. God expects that you share the blessings He has bestowed on you. Yes, you can be a blessing to other children by sharing the little you have with them.

Sharing your time during break to teach a classmate who has difficulty with understanding a subject, sharing your food with those who don’t have (with the permission of your parents), sharing the word of God with sinners, sharing words of encouragement with those who are discouraged. Do everything in your little way to be a blessing to other children, and God will bless you more.

Prayer: Oh God, make me a channel of blessing, I pray.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
