Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 18:19-23 (KJV)

19Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.

20And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king’s son is dead.

21Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.

22Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?

23But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.

Message

Back in the days before the discovery of the computer system, messengers were low rank officers who move files and other important documents from one office to the other. Whenever they come into an office, they either come to drop or pick up a message. Nowadays with the computer, offices use email, text messages, WhatsApp and other social media app to send and receive messages. If anyone mistakenly send an empty message out, it is quicky followed by an apology as it could be seen as an insult and distracting. A messenger without a message is useless, because no purpose is being fulfilled, it is just a wasted effort.

Just as an empty message is disappointing; so does God when our lives does not fulfil His purpose. God has a plan for every child to fulfil as he comes to this world and so you must discover God’s purpose and live to fulfil it. You may be that great singer, preacher, web designer, writer, teacher … that the world is waiting for. So you must make up your mind never to be an empty messenger.

Ahimaaz in our Bible story ran for nothing, had nothing to deliver, had no reward at the end. If you remain a sinner till you die, then you would have ran in vain like Ahimaaz who had no purpose but ran all the same. For your life to have meaning; you must turn away from every bad behaviour and Christ will receive you, then you can run your race with a purpose and end well.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Dear Lord, help me so that I will not run in vain.
