TOPIC: A MOTHER’S COUNSELS

BIBLE TEXT: PROVERBS 31:1-6

1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

5Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

MEMORY VERSE: “My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother” (Proverbs 1:8).

MESSAGE:

A mother repeatedly told her little boy to sit down. The boy continued to stand, disobeying his mother. Finally, the mother went to him and forced him down on a chair. The boy said, “I may be sitting down on the outside, but on the inside I’m still standing up!” What a rebellious heart! “The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it” (Proverbs 30:17). Many youths who are disobedient to their parents come to an untimely end.

As we grow up from adolescence to adulthood, as believers we should lay to heart godly instructions received from our mothers. A mother’s admonitions are to be laid in the heart for our good to bring smiles on their faces. Yes, be a child that rejoices the mother’s heart. Do you expect your children to honour and obey you in future? If your answer is yes, then, do so to your mother now. The seeds you sow today, you will reap tomorrow.

QUOTE: Lay to heart Godly instructions

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to obey my mother’s counsels.

CHALLENGE: Children, obey your parents in the Lord.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
