DCLM Higher Everyday 11 October 2022 — Safety of Siblings

DCLM Higher Everyday 11 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Safety of Siblings

TOPIC: SAFETY OF SIBLINGS

TEXT: EXODUS 2:1-10

1And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

3And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.

4And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

5And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

6And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

7Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

8And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

9And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

10And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

MEMORY VERSE: “And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him” (EXODUS 2:4).

MESSAGE:

Siblings are persons who share parents. Miriam’s concern for her brother’s safety is worth commending and emulating. She expressed wisdom, courage and kindness which resulted in the preservation of the life of Moses who became a great contributor to the deliverance of the children of Israel from Egyptian captivity.

Miriam showed sacrificial love for her younger brother. Robert Tilton said, “Service and obedience are proofs of love.” In obedience to her mother, Mariam rendered services that saved Moses’ life.

It is selfishness for youths to be concerned only about their own safety. Christ expressed love in dying on the Cross of Calvary for our salvation from the grip of sin and hell. Likewise, we are to be concerned about the salvation of our unconverted siblings by giving them the gospel of Christ. Prayer should also be offered on their behalf.

The experience of salvation and sanctification equips us with genuine love to serve. A sinner must therefore surrender his/her life to Christ to begin practical and genuine concern for the safety of others. If you are a sinner, repent now!

QUOTE: Mariam showed sacrificial love.

CHALLENGE: A single act of concern can save lives.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to go the extra mile to assist others.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
