TOPIC: ABRAHAM’S FAITH

TEXT: ROMANS 4:1-9

1What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

2For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

6Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

9Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

MEMORY VERSE: “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness” (ROMANS 4:3).

MESSAGE:

One of the hymns we grew up singing is:

“Living by faith in Jesus above,
Trusting, confiding in His great love;
From all harm safe in His sheltering arm,
I’m living by faith and feel no alarm.”

Abraham was a pagan before God called him, he believed God wholeheartedly and attained a right standing before God. Our salvation is obtained by faith and not by deeds or actions of obeying the Ten Commandments.

Abraham had faith in God and believed His promises. His faith in God was true, trusting and God glorifying; it’s the type of faith that makes us children of God.

We must believe in the saving grace of Christ for Him to forgive our sins. Our faith in Christ and His atoning blood grants us righteousness and reconciliation with God, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness…” (Romans 10:10).

God imputes the righteousness of Christ to a sinner who believes, and then he enjoys the Abraham’s kind of blessings – protection, prosperity, good health and long life.

QUOTE: His faith in God was true.

CHALLENGE: Let your faith be active like Abraham’s.

PRAYER: Help me to stand faultless before You, Oh God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
